About

Hi! I’m Josselyn the owner of Root & Limb Pilates, a private Pilates studio in Berkeley, CA offering in-person and online Pilates training. My goal is to provide sessions tailored to your specific needs and classes that not only give you a great workout but also a movement tool kit for your life. I believe learning the how’s and why’s of your movement is the best path to becoming the strongest and most resilient you can be. Helping you move like YOU makes achieving your movement goals easier and your results long lasting.

My mission at Root & Limb is to help you find balance, strength, flexibility and joy in your sessions and moving through your life. I believe in the power of movement for change, growth and longevity to move your best now and for years to come.

The fully equipped physical studio, where only one session takes place at a time, provides a safe, nurturing and private space to move and learn. Sometimes called “The Nest”, the studio is a place for clients to have a truly dedicated space to care for themselves, move well and learn without distraction.

Online sessions provide the same level of personalization, detail and support from the comfort of your home, office or anywhere else!

Virtual Livestream Pilates Mat Classes offer a group class experience from anywhere. Using props to add challenge and creativity to Pilates Mat work, each class has a specific focus while giving a full bodied workout that is smart, fun and accessible.

My Evergreen Membership gives you all the benefits of a private studio experience with the flexibility and convenience of virtual training. As a member, you get access to Livestream Classes, an ever-growing video workout library, special virtual events, and access to personal support to get the best results from your home workouts.

ABOUT JOSSELYN

Senior Instructor & Studio owner

Hello! My name is Josselyn, and I’m a movement lover, anatomy geek, weightlifter, wife, mama, and Pilates practitioner and teacher.

I hold a BA in dance and an MFA in Performance and Choreography with an emphasis in the Alexander Technique. I began intensively studying Pilates while dancing professionally in New York City as a way to rehab and strengthen my own body to enhance my dance career and fell in love with the work. I became certified in Mat and Apparatus Pilates through the internationally recognized Kane School of Core Integration in NYC and began teaching Pilates full time in 2010.

I have had the pleasure of working with and learning from my clients ranging in age from 12-85 with various conditions such as:

  • disc herniations
  • knee injuries
  • joint replacements
  • breast cancer and reconstruction
  • multiple sclerosis
  • scoliosis
  • osteoporosis
  • arthritic conditions
  • rotator cuff injuries
  • stenosis
  • nerve impingement and damage
  • hypermobility and EDS
  • pelvic floor issues
  • peri and post menopause
  • general chronic pain
  • clients who are looking for a rigorous fitness experience

I have completed numerous continuing education courses focusing on special populations and specific areas of the body, including Pre and Postnatal Pilates, the Psoas, the Hyper-Mobile client, Osteoporosis protocols, the Sacrum and SI joint, and Pilates for Scoliosis. As a forever student, I thrive on learning new information and research to teach from an evidence-based perspective. I offer thoughtful, detailed, and challenging Pilates sessions that are tailored to each individual client with the goal of not only giving a fabulous movement experience but empowering clients with knowledge about their own bodies. It is my joy to teach clients how to unlock their bodies’ movement potential regardless of limitation or injury.

My ultimate goal is to help my clients to feel at home in their own skin, feel strong and capable in their physical practice, and lead movement-rich lives.
